‘Research Objectives and Contribution:
This project aims to investigate the diversity and distribution of ant species (Formicidae) in coffee and banana plantations in southern Rwanda. The research objectives are:
• To assess the effects of land use on the diversity and abundance of ants in Coffee and Banana plantations of Southern Rwanda
• To assess the diversity and abundance of ant species in coffee and banana plantations found in southern Rwanda
By achieving these objectives, the study will contribute to filling the following knowledge gaps:
• Ant diversity in Rwandan agroecosystems: Limited research exists on ant species composition in Rwanda’s agricultural landscapes. This project will provide the first comprehensive data on ant distribution in coffee and banana plantations in the region.
• Impact of crop types on ant communities: Understanding how different crops influence ant diversity and ecosystem functions will contribute to more sustainable agricultural practices.
