The Nyagasenyi remnant forest in eastern part of Rwanda is one of the remaining remnant forests in Rwanda. It is of special concern due to the ecosystem goods and services they provide. However, key invertebrate groups such as ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) remain almost unknown. The main objective of this work is to study ground ant diversity and characterize ant assemblage in terms of species richness, relative abundance, and species composition. Data were collected using pittfall traps, bait traps, winkler–Berlese extractors and manual collection. A part of specimens was identified to morphspecies at RBINS, General linear model analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be used to compare abundance of identified ground ant and the diversity indices, Finally, a similarity percentage analysis (SEMPER) will be applied. Findings will be used as a baseline information in monitoring restoration activities of the forest for effective conservation of the area.
